Chris Young's Gettin' Some (Attention)

written by Rick Amburgey

Chris Young's faithful followers have waited quite some time for this CD. It has been quite a while since a person was able to go to their favorite CD store and pick up the song "Voices." It's one of those songs that got a lot of attention because of it's powerful message and the strong vocal delivery Young gives.

Young proved that "Voices' wasn't just a fluke because he recieved even more attention when he released "Gettin' You Home," which he penned with Cory Batten and Kent Blazy. This song is all kinds of sexy and, if you ask me, it makes me not even want to go out to the restaurant. He sure knows how to make "home" sound anything but boring and a pretty daggone good time.

His latest single is "The Man I Want To Be". This is a song that guys love because they can relate to it. Women are digging this tune too, because they would love for their man to say something like this. I know this song hit me pretty hard the first time I heard it, and even now that I've heard it several times, I still stop and listen when it comes on. I've done my share of messing up in my life and it's about wanting to be a better person. One thing I love about this song is that he doesn't ask the woman to help him change, he asks God to help him change. If you ask me, we could all benefit from following Young's example here.

ThereĀ are some songs that are uptempo and fast paced. "Twenty One Candles" is one example of these. It's the kind of song that makes you want to tap your foot or just get up and dance. "That Makes Me" is another of the upbeat songs on the CD.

Songs like "The Dashboard," "It Takes A Man," and "The Shoebox" show that Young is equally as strong delivering an emotional ballad as he is at rocking it out.

The CD also features a duet with Willie Nelson called "Rose In Paradise." It's very mainstream country and I think it would be a successful single for both artists. I also liked Young's cover of "Rainy Night In Georgia." It's a soulful song and it fits Young's voice nicely. The song was the last song Conway Twitty recorded, as a duet with Sam Moore.
